Alternative country queen Neko Case is a "man-man-man eater" and you shouldn't be surprised. Her latest album Middle Cyclone is a strong, yet soft collection of her usual narratives. The standout track "People Got a Lotta Nerve" speaks of warnings, misconceptions and preconceived notions. With its catchy rhythm and just the right amount of twang, it just may be the song that pushes Case beyond her much revered independent status.
With lyrics like "You know they call them killer whales/ But you seem surprised/ When it pinned you down/ To the bottom of the tank where you can't turn around/ It took half your leg and both your lungs/ I carved I eat hearts of sharks", Case once again takes on an animalistic theme in her snappish kind of way.
Move over Nelly Furtado, Neko is the fiercest man eater around—and she wrote the song herself.
